The 9th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea convened on the 23rd, where General Secretary Kim Jong Un stated that the next five years will be a 'stage of stabilization and consolidation, and of steady and gradual quality development' for North Korea’s economy.
He pointed out that the main remaining agenda of the Congress was to formulate plans for the next five years in various sectors and to vote on the results.
He emphasized that the Congress's major achievements depend on how the direction of work for the next five years is determined and how research, discussions, and other work are conducted to ensure that targets in various sectors are met.
Election of Standing Committee Members of the Workers' Party of Korea
The first enlarged meeting of the 9th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea was held at the headquarters of the Party Central Committee on the 23rd, electing the new Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, headed by Workers’ Party General Secretary Kim Jong Un.
According to a communiqué released by KCNA, the new Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau of the Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee are: Kim Jong Un, Pak Tae Song, Jo Yong Won, Kim Jae Ryong, and Ri Il Hwan.
The report stated that the plenary meeting elected the Party Central Committee secretaries and formed the Secretariat. The meeting also elected the Party Central Military Commission and the Central Inspection Commission.
