On the evening of the 2nd, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, head of Kyiv's city military administration, posted on social media that the large-scale airstrike launched by Russian forces on the city from the night of the 1st to the early morning of the 2nd has caused 27 deaths and 91 injuries.
Tymoshenko pointed out that the attack by Russian forces resulted in 5 deaths in a residential area in the Darnytskyi district. At present, search and rescue operations are still ongoing, and the number of casualties may continue to rise.
On the afternoon of the 2nd, at the scene of the attack in Darnytskyi district, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine told Xinhua News Agency that Kyiv has deployed 130 pieces of equipment and 500 rescue personnel at 39 affected sites across the city to carry out rescue operations.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on social media saying that Kyiv was simultaneously attacked by ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones; 10 districts were affected, with a residential building in the Darnytskyi district suffering the most serious damage—part of the building collapsed.
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated at a press conference on the 2nd that Russian forces were conducting large-scale retaliatory strikes against Ukraine.
According to a bulletin released by the Russian Ministry of Defense via social media, in retaliation for Ukraine's attacks on civilian targets inside Russia, the Russian military used land-, sea-, and air-launched long-range weapons and attack drones to strike military-industrial enterprises producing missile guidance systems and drones, fuel and energy complexes, as well as infrastructure such as military airports in Ukraine.
