Russian Couple Climbs to 443-Meter Top of New York's Empire State Building, Promotes Peace, Then Man Proposes

A Russian couple, Kuznetsov and Nikolau, staged a stunning scene atop New York City's Empire State Building on the 1st: they climbed without authorization to the top of the building's antenna tower, unfurled a flag with a "World Peace" theme, after which the man proposed to his partner.

Regardless, the two were later arrested by police.

The couple, dressed in black and masked, climbed to the 443-meter-tall spire of the Empire State Building in New York, and displayed a black-and-white banner reading "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." The man then knelt on one knee at the top and proposed to his girlfriend, after which they embraced and kissed.

Afterwards, a spokesperson for the New York Police confirmed to AFP that the two were arrested, that no accidents occurred in the process and that no one was injured. The investigation is still ongoing, and specific charges are yet to be determined.

Although the Empire State Building has an observation deck for public visits, visitors are strictly prohibited from climbing higher. In the past, there have been occasional incidents of attempted climbs of the building.
