(Miri, 9th) Huang Yu En, a Form Three student from Pei Min Middle School, participated in the 3rd Borneo International Vocal Arts Festival and won the gold medal in the solo category, claiming overall second place among 91 contestants and bringing honor to the school.
This event was held in Miri from May 27th to 31st this year.
On the finals stage, Huang Yu En, with outstanding vocal skills, stable stage performance, and profound artistic cultivation, delivered perfect renditions of two challenging songs: “Lian Ming Dai Xing” and “Mu Xi She Hui”, earning high praise from the judges present.
The panel of judges for this singing competition came from China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.
Pei Chung principal Bae Mei Jiao stated that behind Huang Yu En’s achievement is the sweat and hard work from persistent training, as well as a testament to the consistent support and encouragement from parents.
She said that education is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about uncovering students’ potential and nurturing all-rounded talents. That is why the school has been actively promoting arts education, encouraging students to participate in various music, dance, and other cultural activities—so that students can enhance their aesthetic appreciation, build self-confidence, and enrich their lives through the influence of art.
She added that winning an award in this international competition not only proves that the school's students have the ability to compete alongside outstanding contestants from various regions, but also showcases the spirit of the new generation—brave in facing challenges and striving for excellence.
