(Kuching, 31st) Borneo Airways (Air Borneo) will proceed in phases, including relocating its headquarters from Kota Kinabalu to Sarawak.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said this during an interview this morning at the Hari Raya open house at the Borneo Convention Centre.
He said after being acquired by the Sarawak government and renamed from MasWings to Borneo Airways, the Sarawak government will offer options to support the existing FlyWings airline company, allowing them to decide whether to continue serving under Borneo Airways or make other decisions.
Currently, Abang Johari pointed out that the preparation work for the airline has entered the final stage, including necessary adjustments and transitions, and it is expected that there will be further progress by the first quarter of next year.
Regarding the ongoing public competition for the airline's design, the Premier stated that they will continue to monitor progress and ultimately select the best work.
On the other hand, in terms of Sarawak's infrastructure development, he revealed that Sarawak has successfully propelled the construction of 16 bridges through its own funds, including previously taking over the Batang Lupar Bridge, Batang Igan Bridge, and Rambungan Bridge, which were originally canceled by the federal government.
He further stated that all the bridges will be completed by 2028, further perfecting Sarawak's coastal highway network and promoting rural development.
“The overall development blueprint for Sarawak is progressing as planned and is expected to make Sarawak's economic development more robust by 2030, with comprehensive infrastructural upgrades, creating a more competitive economic ecosystem.”
