On Thursday (December 25), a random attack took place in Miaoli City, Taiwan, where a man wielding a sickle attacked passersby on the street, injuring a woman. He later entered a convenience store with the weapon and threatened the staff, but was subdued on the spot by police who arrived in time.
According to reports from Taiwan United Daily News and ETtoday News Cloud, the Miaoli Police Department reported that at 4:55 p.m. that day, on Yuanlin Street in Miaoli City, a man for unknown reasons attacked a woman with a sickle, causing contusions on the left side of her waist. The woman was immediately taken to hospital for treatment; fortunately, her injuries were not serious.
After the attack, the man fled the scene on foot and at 5:02 p.m. entered a nearby convenience store along his route, brandishing the weapon and making threatening gestures toward the cashier, putting the scene in considerable danger. Luckily, the staff quickly dodged and promptly called the police for help.
The Miaoli Police Department received the report at 5:10 p.m., immediately dispatched officers from the Beimiao Police Station to the scene, swiftly subdued and arrested the man wielding the sickle, and escorted him to the hospital under guard. Police also notified the Mental Health Center, which sent a social worker to assist with follow-up measures.
