The Ministry of National Defense of mainland China stated that the aircraft carrier Fujian's transit through the Taiwan Strait is a normal training activity and will continue to be organized as needed in the future.
On Thursday, December 25, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, responded to reporters' questions regarding the Fujian’s first transit of the Taiwan Strait on December 16, as confirmed by Taiwan’s authorities. He said: "This is a normal training activity carried out by the aircraft carrier Fujian, and we will continue to organize such activities as needed in the future. We advise the 'Taiwan independence' armed forces to recognize reality and not to make futile struggles or indulge in illusions."
Taiwan’s military released surveillance images, stating that the Fujian aircraft carrier transited the Taiwan Strait on December 16, marking its first passage through the strait since its commissioning.
In addition, satellite photos circulating online show the Fujian carrier together with the Liaoning carrier—which completed Western Pacific training and docked at Qingdao naval port—on December 18.

The Fujian is China's first electromagnetic catapult aircraft carrier, completely independently designed and constructed by China. It was launched in June 2022, conducted its first sea trial in May 2024, and held an official commissioning and flag presentation ceremony at Sanya Naval Base on November 5 this year, signifying China's entry into the 'three aircraft carrier' era.
