Chinese actress Jin Chen was embroiled in a scandal on the 29th, following revelations of her involvement in a hit-and-run incident, allegedly asking her assistant to take the blame, and suspected insurance fraud. After a day's silence, Jin Chen personally issued a statement clarifying the original situation, emphasizing that it was only after she regained consciousness from surgery that she learned her assistant had proactively taken the blame, and that the rumors were untrue. The related insurance claim had also been completed, with all costs fully covered by herself.
On the 30th, Jin Chen addressed the rumors regarding the March 2025 accident in a post on her Weibo account. She explained that at the time she was driving with her agent and assistant for a leisure outing, and in an attempt to avoid a dog that suddenly ran onto the road, she accidentally crashed into a roadside sign and a property's wall.
Due to the severity of Jin Chen's injuries, her agent immediately took her to the emergency room for surgery, leaving only the assistant at the scene to handle the incident. Jin Chen stated that the assistant, being emotionally shaken, proactively told the police that she was the driver and cooperated with the accident investigation. It was only after Jin Chen's surgery and recovery of consciousness that she was made aware of the entire handling process.
Jin Chen expressed her remorse, saying, “I believe that as the actual driver, I must take full responsibility for the accident, as well as all improper handling related to the incident.” Therefore, she instructed her assistant to contact the insurance company to withdraw the claim, ensuring all compensation for damages would be paid in full by herself, which was completed the following month.
Jin Chen ended with another apology: “As a public figure, I failed to set a good example. Instead, my personal actions wasted social resources and caused concern and distress. I deeply feel ashamed for this. Thank you all for your concern and oversight. I will conduct a thorough self-reflection and will strictly abide by traffic laws and be cautious in my words and actions, fully shouldering my social responsibilities in the future.”
Currently, all of Jin Chen's entertainment activities have been impacted by the scandal. In addition to a major beauty brand removing her from scheduled livestreams, her ongoing film and television projects—including the film 'Unknown Stories,' voice work for the animation 'Zootopia 2,' and the third season of the variety show 'Set Off Now'—are all facing uncertainty. Now, with Jin Chen quickly issuing a clarification, the public is curious about her next moves and possible compensatory measures.
In addition, the local police have also released a statement consistent with Jin Chen's account, emphasizing that there was no insurance fraud or any such misconduct in the incident. The public is urged not to spread or believe rumors.
