(Colombia, 9th) The mayor of Colombia's capital, Bogota, Galen, said on the 8th that the well-known right-wing presidential candidate Turbay, who was shot during a campaign event in Bogota, has successfully undergone the first surgery.
According to AFP, the 39-year-old senator Turbay was shot twice in the head and once in the knee by a gunman while addressing supporters in the capital. The suspect has been arrested.
The attacker is believed to be a minor, only 15 years old, and was apprehended by security personnel.
The Santa Fe Clinic in Bogota confirmed that Turbay was airlifted to the hospital in a "critical condition" and underwent "neurosurgery" and "peripheral vascular surgery."
Galen told the media that he "got through the first surgery," adding that he has entered the "crucial hours" of postoperative recovery.
Turbay's wife said in a recording shared with the media: "He is recovering well after the surgery. He fought the first battle, and he fought it well. He is fighting for his life."
Footage from the shooting scene shows Turbay collapsing onto the hood of a white car, covered in blood, with a group of men attempting to hold him up and stop the bleeding.
Police Chief Treana stated that the suspect was injured in a brawl and is receiving treatment.
A man and a woman were also injured, and the police seized a Glock handgun.
