(City, 14th) A 30-year-old local man was charged at the Magistrate's Court this Tuesday for allegedly installing a phone in a public restroom to spy on others, and is currently facing criminal charges.
Defendant Mohamad Azizam is accused of placing a phone in the restroom of a commercial establishment in the Kiulap commercial area between 12:56 PM and 1:22 PM on October 25, 2023. According to the prosecution's charges, the phone was used for covert filming with the intent to spy on others' private actions to satisfy personal sexual desires.
The charges state that the defendant knew that others did not give consent to this action, constituting a serious invasion of privacy.
This act violates Section 377H(4) of Chapter 22 of the Penal Code, and upon conviction, the penalty may include imprisonment not exceeding three years, a fine, or both.
The defendant's representing lawyer requested time in court to obtain relevant documents and legal instructions. The magistrate subsequently adjourned the case to be continued on June 4, 2025.
