(Miri, 25th) In response to the remarks made by the Youth Chief of Sarawak DAP Socialist Youth, Khoo Kee Hoon, Ling Wei Peng, Central Committee Member of the Youth League of the Sarawak United People’s Party, expressed that Khoo Kee Hoon's "doubt" is superficial and carries an obvious intention of political hype, which does not help solve actual problems or bring welfare to the citizens.
First and foremost, Ling Wei Peng emphasized that the promotion of food events is aimed at boosting local economic development and visibility, hoping to attract tourists and create economic benefits for local businesses. The hosting of such large-scale events requires the efforts and cooperation of all parties and long-term persistence. The support from the Miri City Council for hosting related events deserves recognition rather than unwarranted criticism.
Double Standards Lead to Doubts About True Intentions to Serve the Public
He questioned, "Khoo Kee Hoon is constantly demanding transparency and audit reports. Can the Sarawak DAP also openly disclose the complete report of the funds raised in the past using the 'Milo Tin' method? It's important to note that those are the hard-earned money of the public!"
Ling Wei Peng further pointed out that the people’s prosperity event hosted by the Prime Minister's Department Accelerated and Coordinated Unit (PACU) from September 27 to 29 was on a large scale, indicating considerable expenses. However, Khoo Kee Hoon did not show the same positive attitude towards transparency for this event, nor did he high-profiled demand any subsequent review.
"This selective voicing and double standard expose the hypocrisy of Sarawak DAP's so-called 'transparency' claims, leading people to question whether they genuinely serve the people or only use specific events for political maneuvers."
Ling Wei Peng stated that many food events in Miri are mainly planned and executed by various groups and businesses in Miri, while the role of the Miri City Council is to approve and ensure that the events are legal and compliant but not the organizer. Khoo Kee Hoon directly associating the City Council with the event hosting is not only a severe misguidance but also reveals his shallow understanding of local affairs.
DAP Should Demonstrate Practical Actions
Ling Wei Peng suggested that as a member of the federal government, the Sarawak DAP should utilize its resources and influence to solve issues that directly affect citizens, such as the soaring air ticket prices, rather than solely blaming the local government. He emphasized, "Instead of attacking others through posts, Khoo Kee Hoon should communicate more with the party's Secretary-General (Minister of Transport) and Deputy Chairman (Minister of Local Government Development) to strive for more benefits for Miri."
He also urged that if the DAP genuinely cares about the transparency of public events, it should lead by example and disclose all past fundraising's complete financial and review reports, including the source and use of funds for events held in Sarawak, using real actions to fulfill its 'transparency' promise.
Frequent Attacks Online, Lacking Substantial Contribution
"Khoo Kee Hoon should not only hold his own party to the same high standards but also realize that frequently attacking others in posts not only fails to win the hearts of the people but also shows the citizens his lack of constructive governance capability."
Hope for Cooperation from All Parties for Miri's Development
Finally, Ling Wei Peng reiterated that the Sarawak United People’s Party is always people-oriented and supports any activity that is beneficial to local development and looks forward to cooperating with all parties to seek more substantial improvements and development for the citizens of Miri.
He stated that Miri needs practical individuals, not "keyboard warriors" who rely solely on gaining presence through online posts.
