(Manila, 5th) — The Philippine Department of Labor and Employment will dispatch personnel to various companies in Metro Manila to oversee the implementation of the recently announced 50 peso daily minimum wage hike and ensure labor rights are not neglected.
Maria Criselda Sy, Executive Director of the National Wages and Productivity Commission, revealed on Friday's "New Philippines Today" program that Labor Secretary Laguesma has instructed the National Capital Region (NCR) regional and field offices to conduct labor inspections to implement the new minimum wage standard and other labor regulations.
She pointed out that companies with no more than 10 employees, as well as those severely affected by typhoons or man-made disasters, may apply for exemption from the wage increase.
“We already have an established mechanism for companies to apply for exemptions.” She urged business owners in need to visit the Department of Labor's official website to learn about the exemption application process.
Earlier this week, the NCR Wage Board approved a 50 peso daily minimum wage increase, which is expected to benefit about 1.2 million workers.
After the adjustment, the minimum daily wage in NCR will rise from the original 645 pesos to 695 pesos.
