(Kuala Lumpur, 15th) The number of items exempt from the Sales and Service Tax (SST) has been reduced from 8,084 to 1,813. UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Akmal Salleh urges the government not to feel ashamed for previously opposing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and suggests reinstating this more effective tax system.
Akmal posted on Facebook, pointing out that when the previous Barisan Nasional government introduced the 6% GST, it was said to burden the people, but now people have to pay 5% or 10% sales tax and 6% service tax.
"In addition to this, the items exempt from tax have been reduced from 8,084 to 1,813."
Therefore, he calls on the government to reinstate the better and more efficient GST.
He also did not forget to sarcastically remark that the government should not feel ashamed for previously opposing the GST, and even suggested that the election manifesto to "abolish the GST" is not "holy scripture" to justify reinstating the tax system.
"What's most important is that it doesn't burden the people and ensures better taxation."
