(Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) The 23rd Commonwealth Games will be held from the 23rd of this month to August 2nd in Glasgow, Scotland. The first group of Brunei’s delegation, consisting of six people, has already departed for the venue to prepare for the Games.
The first group is made up of three swimmers and three officials. The accompanying officials include the head of the delegation, the Chief of Secretariat who is also the security officer, and the swimming coach.
Hajah Ummikalthum, Director of Brunei's Department of Youth and Sports, personally saw the delegation off at Brunei International Airport, offering her blessings and encouragement, hoping that the athletes will give their all at the Games and bring glory to the nation.
The farewell ceremony started with Hj Ahmad Yadi leading a prayer for safety, followed by words of encouragement to the Brunei delegation members, and concluded with a group photo.
Brunei will take part in three of the ten events at this year’s Commonwealth Games: swimming, athletics, and weightlifting.
Bruneian swimmers will be the first to compete, starting on Friday, the 24th, at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Other attendees at the farewell ceremony included William Roberts, Director of the British High Commission Office in Brunei, officials from the Department of Youth and Sports, representatives from national sports associations, and family members of the athletes.
The remaining members of the delegation will depart for Glasgow, Scotland, on the 21st of this month to join those who arrived earlier.
