(Kuching, 3rd) Kuching South City Council is stepping up measures to protect the public from scams and commercial crime, confirmed Mayor Dato Haji Wee Hong Seng. The council is working closely with the police to devise joint response strategies.
Dato Haji Wee, together with Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiton bin Suhaili and several senior council officials, yesterday received a courtesy visit at council headquarters from Superintendent Mohd Syafiq Jinuin Abdullah, Head of Investigation and Legal Division of the Royal Malaysia Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID).
At the meeting, both parties discussed several pressing issues affecting residents, including the rise in scam cases, illegal money laundering activities, and the proliferation of scam-related advertisements within the Kuching South area.
The meeting also explored various measures to curb such criminal activities, focusing on proactive preventative measures to prevent the public from falling victim to scams.
Dato Haji Wee emphasized that the meeting is an important step to strengthen cooperation in jointly addressing the increasingly severe challenge of urban commercial crimes.
He said: "Close cooperation and coordination between the city council and the police, especially through public education and awareness campaigns, are vital."
"To protect the community from scams and fraudulent activities, strong cooperation is essential. We thank the police for their proactive efforts and look forward to even closer cooperation in raising public awareness and safety," he said in a statement today.
At the end of the meeting, both parties unanimously pledged to further strengthen communication, coordination, and public engagement to jointly safeguard the safety and wellbeing of residents in Kuching South.
