(Narathiwat, Thailand, 6th) – According to Thai media reports, at around 6:30 pm on the 5th, the Yaowarat Bangkok Gold Shop located inside the Big C mall in Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat province, was robbed by eight heavily armed, masked criminals wielding guns, plunging the scene into chaos.
It is reported that the robbers first threatened a security guard at gunpoint, seized his walkie-talkie, and quickly looted a large quantity of gold ornaments from the display cabinets, with a total weight exceeding 100 baht (approximately 1.5 kilograms).
During the robbery, a military sergeant shopping in the mall was shot and wounded, taking hits to his shoulder, left leg, and cheek. He was subsequently rushed to Sungai Kolok Hospital for emergency treatment.
After committing the crime, the perpetrators drove away in an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck with an unidentified license plate, fleeing in the direction of Su-ngai Padi District. On the way, the suspects placed a suspicious liquefied gas cylinder at a U-turn and scattered spike strips on the road, resulting in damage to several civilian vehicles. Police immediately sealed off the road, cleared obstacles, and assisted injured military and civilians in getting medical help.
At 7:30 pm the same night, an explosion was reported at an intersection near a mosque approximately 500 meters from the Big C mall, fortunately with no casualties. Police have sealed off the scene, and relevant departments will conduct investigations at all crime scenes today.
Additionally, the village head of Lubak Batu 8 Village, Baru Lu Subdistrict, Su-ngai Padi District, reported to the military that villagers there had two pickup trucks stolen by the suspects, one being an Isuzu D-Max and the other a Toyota Vigo. Police suspect these two vehicles were used by the perpetrators to commit the gold shop robbery and for their getaway.
