Phei Yong Joins Production as Investor and Guest Star in ‘Parasite Undercurrents’, Encountering a ‘Gangster’ Incident on Set

Malaysian internet celebrity and content creator Phei Yong has announced his investment in Lowcost Media’s 2026 Lunar New Year film ‘Parasite Undercurrents’ and will also make a guest appearance in the movie. He jokingly said, “No looks, no talent, so I can only bring my own money to join the crew!”
Although both are internet content creators, Phei Yong had never worked with the Lowcost team before, so he boldly declared that it was finally a “king meets king” moment. He shared that he would be taking on his first-ever villain role in the film, “This time the character is bad to the bone—even I find it scary!”

Phei Yong said he decided to collaborate with Lowcost after reading only two pages of the script, “The plot twists and twists again—it feels like the script was written by 100 brains! It’s really clever and fun, just right for me to practice my acting. If my acting is bad… then maybe it’s the director’s fault.”
The film ‘Parasite Undercurrents’ held its opening ceremony on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur, followed by a unique “Brotherhood Oath Event” to build hype for the project. As the public thought it was just a routine press conference, “gangsters” suddenly stormed the venue—helmeted, fierce-looking “mob brothers” burst into the event, shouting: “Filming a gangster movie but not paying protection fees?” The atmosphere became chaotic. Just as the tension escalated, Phei Yong and MY FM DJ Jack Yeo made a dramatic entrance, revealing themselves as the masterminds behind the “raid.” It turned out the incident was a pre-planned “immersive scene” by the team to promote the film and help the cast get into character early.
Jack Yeo, returning to film after nearly 7–8 years, will play a triad boss this time—a fresh challenge for him. He laughed, “The movie hasn’t even started shooting yet, and I’ve already been roped in for this scene. It’s really challenging, but I guess this is a warm-up! Anyway, I’ve long been annoyed by Sang Bill and Big Hee—now I finally get to act in a potential multi-million box office hit.”
During the fan Q&A segment, some audience members suggested that the film content should not be too ‘18+’ (adults only), as many young viewers enjoy Lowcost’s work. In response, Lowcost founder and film producer Mok Man stated that the team would seriously consider this feedback to preserve the signature Lowcost style while also making the movie suitable for the public.
Directed by ‘Kuan Ni Cha Shi’ (Shut Up and Take My Teahouse) director Lao Zhang (Teo Wei Chen), and featuring the strong comeback of Singaporean comedy king Mark Lee, the returning Lowcost regulars including Sang Bill, Big Hee, Mok Man, Anthony, Jinchinwu,
Adeline, Yuriko, Yuniyce, Zuvia, Michie, Judy and the original cast of ‘Parasite Undercurrents’ are set to bring a satirical comedy for Malaysians in the 2026 Lunar New Year season.
