(Miri, 15th) The "GoBald 2025" head-shaving fundraising event in Miri was held grandly at the Imperial Mall today, raising a total of 71,157.26 MYR. 38 enthusiastic individuals shaved their heads on-site, supporting children with cancer through their actions and conveying love and hope, creating an emotional scene.
Organized by the Sarawak Children's Cancer Society (SCCS), this fundraising event is the largest and only head-shaving charity event in Sarawak. This year's theme, "Leave Your Mark," encourages the public to join this meaningful charity line-up.
Mary Kiu Ai Ling, the chairman of SCCS, stated that GoBald is not just a fundraising platform but also a symbol of hope, courage, and unity. She said, "Every shaver is conveying strength and encouragement to children with cancer, letting them know they are not alone."
She also thanked all the shavers, donors, corporate partners, and community members for their generous support, enabling SCCS to continue providing crucial services such as medical care, accommodation, financial aid, and emotional counseling to children with cancer and their families.
Reportedly, since its launch this March, the GoBald 2025 event has attracted around 150 participants nationwide, raising over 390,000 MYR in donations with over 1,200 donations. Last year, GoBald raised more than 780,000 MYR and had over 290 participants. This year, the target is to raise 1 million MYR and recruit at least 400 shavers to meet the annual operating costs exceeding 2 million MYR.

The most notable participant among the shavers was 7-year-old Miri boy Samuel Liau, who was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in 2021 and underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell transplantation, and immunotherapy, totaling costs of 412,000 MYR, with 260,000 MYR funded by SCCS. Now successfully recovered and back in school, he bravely took the stage to shave his head, expressing his hope to encourage other sick children by saying, "I wish other kids to be strong, healthy, and happy."
Accompanying him in shaving were representatives from Imperial Mall, Konny Koh, SCCS volunteer Michael Lim, and two generations, Dominic Anak Jujut and Joseph Anak Bakam, whose family also experienced cancer, offering support to other families facing the same challenges.

Additionally, a 4-year-old boy, who had grown his hair for two years, participated courageously, becoming the youngest shaver at the event. Petra Resources Sdn. Bhd. organized a team of 15 participants, making it the largest group shaving together at the Miri event.
SCCS expressed special thanks to main sponsor IBRACO Berhad and hairstyling partners including Ray's Salon, Maison Monica Hair & Beauty Academy, Fion Hair Studio, Paul & Jennifer, Danny Hair Academy, T2H Eternity Saloon, event partners Paradise Borneo, Aaron Soon Photography, DK Photography, and Village Sound, as well as venue sponsors AEON Mall Kuching Central and Imperial Mall for their strong support.

This year's final GoBald main event will be held on June 22 at AEON Mall Central in Kuching. Participants who have raised at least 50 MYR can now book their shaving slot online.
