(Miri 12th) Miri MP and Sarawak Youth Chief of the People's Justice Party (PKR), Chiew Choon Man, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of National Deputy Youth Chief in the 2025 PKR party elections. He is the only candidate out of 11 contenders hailing from East Malaysian Borneo.
Chiew Choon Man stated that his candidacy is not for power and status, but stems from his commitment to youth development, uniting the voices of Malaysian youth, strengthening organizational structure, and continuing to promote the party's reform ideals. He called on national delegates to support him, allowing East Malaysian youth a place in the national youth leadership.
He proposed three core visions as his campaign philosophy. First, enhancing youth voices at the parliamentary and national levels. As an MP, he pledges to work closely with AMK at all levels nationwide to ensure that youth voices are heard in national policymaking. He emphasized that youths should be bold in expressing themselves, aware of current events, and play a critical role in national development.
Second, strengthening organizational structure, training, and youth leadership cultivation. He mentioned that the youth wing must be built from the grassroots level, promoting organizational system reform, strengthening youth recruitment and training, and nurturing young leaders with leadership capabilities to ensure long-term organizational development.
Third, inspiring reform ideals and youth values. Chiew Choon Man noted that PKR is not just a political party but a people's movement fighting for justice, integrity, and good governance. Youths should understand and practice these values while focusing on real issues like economic opportunities, living costs, climate change, and affordable housing.
The 2025 PKR party elections will select 3 out of 11 candidates to serve as National Deputy Youth Chiefs. Among these candidates are two current MPs, Prabakaran from Batu and Dr. Mohammed Taufiq from Sungai Petani. Chiew Choon Man is the sole candidate from East Malaysian Sarawak, representing the voice of Borneo youth.
The 11 candidates include PRAVIN A/L MURALI, Ng Kah Choon, DR WAN HASIFI AMIN, NABIL HALIMI, PRABAKARAN A/L PARAMESWARAN, PRASANTH KUMAR BRAKASAM, KALAIMUGHILAN ARJUNAN, DR MOHAMMED TAUFIQ BIN JOHARI, Chiew Choon Man, FATHIN AMELINA FAZLIE, and SHAUN KUA.
“I firmly believe that as long as the youth are united and adhere to our ideals, we can collectively build a fairer and better Malaysia,” he said.
