Datu Permaisuri Secondary School Nurtures Talents for 50 Years, Aiming for an Even Brighter Future

(Miri, 15th) Miri Mayor and Pujut State Assemblyman, Yii Xiao Shan, stated that Datu Permaisuri Secondary School has journeyed through 50 glorious years, developing from a modestly sized institution into a prestigious school that has nurtured countless outstanding students. The school has excelled in academics, sports, leadership, and community service, making everyone truly proud.

He made these remarks in a speech prepared for the 50th Golden Jubilee and Charity Dinner held last night at Donglin, though he was unable to attend and had his speech delivered on his behalf by Hsu Xun Yang.

Yii Xiao Shan pointed out that 2025 is a year of great historical significance for Datu Permaisuri Secondary School, symbolizing half a century of persistence and distinguished contributions in the field of education. While 50 years is not short, it has witnessed generations of teachers and students working together, passing the torch, and laying the foundation for the school's respected status today.

He extended his highest respect to all former and current teachers, stressing that teachers are the core strength behind the school's outstanding achievements. Not only do they impart knowledge, but they also shoulder the important mission of guiding, inspiring, and shaping students' character, cultivating students to become contributors to the nation and society.

He also expressed gratitude to parents and the community for their long-term, full support of the school, saying that educational achievements could not be realized without the joint commitment and cooperation of families and society.

Speaking about alumni, Yii Xiao Shan stated that the many outstanding alumni are the best evidence of the school's success, with numerous graduates now excelling in various fields and becoming pillars of society. He encouraged alumni to continue giving back to their alma mater, deepening the ties between alumni and the school, and driving the school's ongoing progress together.

He believes that the Golden Jubilee celebration dinner is not only an important milestone marking the school’s 50th anniversary but also the starting point of a new stage. In facing global changes and the waves of digitalization and innovation, the school must continue to strengthen its curriculum, enhance teachers’ professional capabilities, and build a learning environment that meets the demands of the 21st century.

He also expressed hopes that the government will continue to pay attention to and improve the quality of education in Miri and the greater Sarawak region, nurturing more high-standard quality schools.
