Affected by persistent high temperatures and strong winds, large-scale wildfires broke out in Limassol and Paphos, Cyprus, on the 23rd, with the flames spreading rapidly and forcing residents of several villages and towns to urgently evacuate. The fire has already caused injuries to three people and major property losses.

According to local media reports, the fire broke out around noon, with local temperatures reaching as high as 43 degrees Celsius. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Cyprus President Christodoulides stated, "The current fire situation is extremely serious."

He urged residents in areas affected by the wildfires to fully cooperate and leave their homes promptly upon receiving evacuation orders to ensure personal safety.

Cyprus Minister of Justice and Public Order, Hadjiotis, who is directing the firefighting and rescue efforts, said that the strong winds fueled the flames, causing the fire to rapidly spread to multiple villages and towns. Relevant departments have launched a special emergency plan to effectively coordinate firefighting work.

Fire service spokesperson Ketis pointed out that the fire is developing extremely rapidly. Firefighters will conduct ground firefighting operations throughout the night and will resume aerial firefighting operations the following morning.

Currently, nine firefighting aircraft, at least ten fire trucks, and more than 250 rescue personnel are involved in firefighting efforts. The Cypriot government has sought assistance from neighboring countries; Jordan has agreed to provide aid, and the European Union has also activated its emergency coordination mechanism.
