The Iranian Revolutionary Guard issued a statement on the 18th, saying that two oil tankers exploded and caught fire while passing through a mined area in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement emphasized that, due to recent US military actions, the Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed. Until the US halts its military operations against Iran, oil and natural gas transportation through the strait will be impossible, and vessels should avoid entering mined areas.
The statement did not specify the nationality of the two tankers, nor information regarding casualties or damages.
Reports of Oil Tankers Striking Mines Are Untrue
However, US Central Command posted on social media that the earlier claim by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard about two oil tankers striking mines and exploding in the Strait of Hormuz was not accurate.
