Senadin and Pujut Schools Build Parking Lots to Enhance Traffic Convenience and Student Safety

(Miri, 29th) To alleviate traffic issues arising from parents picking up and dropping off students and to enhance student safety, the Sarawak State Government is undertaking parking lot construction projects at SK Senadin and SMK Pujut under the 2024 "Project Rakyat."

The total area for the parking lot construction at the two schools is approximately 2.5 acres. SK Senadin will have 108 parking spaces in front, covering 1 acre, while SMK Pujut will have 174 parking spaces planned at the back, covering 1.5 acres. The project officially commenced on April 14 this year, with a construction period of 12 months, and is expected to be completed in February 2026.

Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, the Sarawak Minister of Transport and Senadin constituency assemblyman, visited the construction site this morning. He was accompanied by SK Senadin's principal, Ahmad, SMK Pujut's principal, Su Yien Jiong, city councilor Tiew Jia Hung, municipal representatives, and the contractor's representatives.

Lee Kim Shin stated that this project is part of the "Senadin Constituency People's Project," with a total budget of RM1.8 million for the two projects, of which approximately RM1,603,380 has been utilized. He noted that the projects not only cover parking lots but also include passages, entrance renovations, and pedestrian walkway construction.

At SMK Pujut, in addition to adding parking spaces, the school's main entrance will also undergo renovations to add a sheltered pedestrian passage. Principal Su Yien Jiong said the school currently has over 2,500 students attending morning and afternoon sessions, with about 200 students riding motorcycles to school. Due to the lack of dedicated motorcycle parking, they have had to park on external roads, leading to severe traffic congestion.

Principal Su Yien Jiong suggested adding motorcycle parking facilities, which received positive responses from the authorities. The new motorcycle parking area will have a shelter for the convenience of students and staff.

Additionally, the parking lot design also considers multi-purpose uses, such as future school events, markets, and community activities. The project aims to help the school manage traffic flow effectively, enhance passage efficiency, and provide convenience for parents picking up and dropping off students, ensuring student safety.

At SK Senadin, construction work has also commenced, funded by the Sarawak government. The construction progress is currently advancing smoothly.

Overall, this parking lot and road improvement plan not only helps improve the traffic order around the campus but also reflects the state government's focus and commitment to educational infrastructure and community well-being.
