(Bandar Seri Begawan, 28th) The Ministry of Health hereby advises the public that the Laboratory of the Pharmacy Section of the Ministry of Health's Scientific Services Department has detected an undeclared controlled substance listed under the Poison Act in a health product.
The affected health product is listed as follows:
Product Name No.: HKT Fatz Blocker, which contains Sibutramine. The adulterated substance found in this product may pose potential harm to users.
Sibutramine is a weight-loss drug that is no longer recommended for obesity treatment due to its potential harm to the heart and liver. Taking Sibutramine can also lead to severe side effects such as high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and difficulty sleeping; in more severe cases, it may also cause kidney and liver damage.
The Ministry of Health has not approved the import and sale of this product. Therefore, the product must not be imported or sold in Brunei.
The public is advised to immediately stop using this product if purchased or used. If feeling unwell or experiencing any adverse reactions during use, a doctor should be consulted.
The public is reminded that retailing this product (including online retailing through platforms like Facebook) is illegal under the Poison Act of 1956. If convicted, it can result in a fine of 8,000 dollars or 6 months of imprisonment.
Moreover, if a person's negligence poses or may pose a threat to human life, it is considered a criminal act, punishable by a 16,000 dollar fine and 12 months of imprisonment.
The Ministry of Health also calls for public cooperation. If this product is still being sold on the market, please report it to the Compliance and Licensing Department.
