(Kuching, 8th) Sarawak is set to officially acquire Maswings, a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), on the 12th of this month, marking a new historic moment in the aviation industry.

Datuk Seri Abdul Karim, Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, stated that the acquisition is a significant achievement that will strengthen Sarawak's aviation sector, thereby expanding its network of connections both domestically and internationally.

He explained that more details about the planned changes will be gradually released following the signing of the Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA).

“Developing an airline, of course, requires time and careful planning; it cannot be realized in a short period. Currently, Maswings possesses only a few aircraft; however, following this acquisition, we anticipate significant changes to the company, including possible brand repositioning.”

Abdul Karim mentioned these points during a media interview after attending a dinner event held in conjunction with the 2025 Borneo Cross-Border Cycling Tour at the Bicycle Community Museum last night. He highlighted that all these decisions will be made by Sarawak's Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari.

On January 13th, Sarawak's Premier announced that the negotiations to acquire Maswings had been completed and that the signing ceremony for the sales agreement between the Sarawak government and Malaysia Aviation Group is expected to take place here this month.
