Landslide in Pu'er, Yunnan Causes Five Deaths

A landslide occurred in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, China on Sunday (July 27), resulting in five fatalities.
According to comprehensive reports from Xinhua News Agency and Jimu News, due to continuous heavy rainfall, a landslide took place at around 10 a.m. on Sunday on a road section in Mangdong Village, Laba Township, Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er City, burying a vehicle and trapping five people inside.
After the incident, more than 80 professionals from the municipal and county-level Party committees and governments, including fire fighters, police, health, and emergency response personnel, as well as five excavators, were immediately dispatched to carry out rescue work. By around 1:40 p.m. that afternoon, the rescue teams had found the five trapped individuals, but unfortunately, all five were already deceased.
Jimu News quoted a staff member from the Laba Township government in Lancang County as saying that the affected road section has been closed following the incident, and vehicles are required to take detours.
In late July, northern regions of China such as Yunnan, Hebei, and Beijing were hit by heavy rainstorms, with many areas recording historic highs in rainfall. Previously, due to exceptionally heavy rain in Fuping County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, at least two people were killed.
