(Bandar Seri Begawan, 28th) The 20th Asia-Pacific Primary School Mathematics Olympiad Competition Brunei regional event, hosted by Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei, recently came to a successful close. This year's competition saw 37 top elementary school students from three schools—Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei, Chung Hwa Middle School Kuala Belait, and Chung Ching Middle School Seria—compete together. In the end, seven students distinguished themselves by winning gold, silver, or bronze awards. Among them, Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei claimed three spots: student Jiang Bangjie, with solid mathematical skills and excellent performance, won the only gold medal; Zhu Jing'en won silver; and Tian Yuhong won bronze, making the school the biggest winner of the competition.
As one of the most influential primary school math competitions in Asia, the Asia-Pacific Primary Math Olympiad has always aimed to inspire young people's passion for math exploration, nurture logical thinking and innovation, as well as identify promising math talent and promote the overall level of primary math education in the region. This year marks the 20th consecutive year that Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei has hosted this event, making it an important link between Brunei and the Asia-Pacific mathematics education community.
“High-level competitions like this provide students with valuable international contest experience, strengthen local young people's innovative thinking, and allow us to benchmark ourselves against advanced educational concepts in the region,” said Xu Yuelan, Principal of Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei. She stated that the school will continue to improve its mathematics education system, encourage more students to participate in international exchanges, and nurture math talents with both professional skills and a global perspective for Brunei and beyond. She also expressed special thanks to Hwa Chong Institution of Singapore for their long-term support; the two schools have worked closely for many years on question development and event organization to ensure the professionalism and influence of the competition.
It is reported that Jiang Bangjie, accompanied by Head of Mathematics Department He Jibiao, will set off for Singapore on the morning of May 28 to represent the Brunei region in the Asia-Pacific Grand Finals to be held at Hwa Chong Institution. Before departure, he took a group photo with Principal Xu Yuelan, Vice Principal Du Xiuying, Assistant Principal Chen Meidian, Teacher He Jibiao, and Primary School Assistant Director Lin Huiyao. The entire school administration has high hopes for him, expecting him to shine and achieve great results on a bigger stage.
