(Kuching, 12th) A 49-year-old local woman was arrested yesterday in an operation in Taman Desa Wani, Kuching, after police seized 18 small packets suspected to contain methamphetamine (commonly known as 'ice').
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah stated that the woman was apprehended at around 2:20 pm yesterday by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJN), Kuching District Police Headquarters.
"Upon inspection, police found 18 transparent plastic sachets containing crystalline particles suspected to be methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 5.07 grams and a market value of about RM557," he said in a statement today.

He said that the suspect's initial urine screening tested negative, and checks showed she had no previous criminal record.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which, upon conviction, carries a prison sentence of not less than 2 years and not more than 5 years.
Ahsmon emphasized that the success of this operation was due to ongoing intelligence gathering and public cooperation and that police will not compromise with those involved in drug trafficking activities.
"Members of the public with any information may contact the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division hotline at 012-208 7222, or the Sarawak Police Headquarters Narcotics Unit hotline at 017-592 9211," he said.
