(Vietnam, 1st) Tropical storm ‘Talim’ is approaching Vietnam, with strong winds and huge waves battering the already flood-hit central coastal areas. So far, at least 3 people have died and 1 is missing.
In recent weeks, Vietnam’s central region has been repeatedly ravaged by heavy rains. Historic sites and popular resorts have been submerged, causing losses amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.
According to Vietnam's Ministry of Environment, two vessels sank in rough seas: one was a fishing boat from the southern coastal Khanh Hoa Province, the other a small wooden raft from Lam Dong Province. A total of 3 people are confirmed dead, and authorities are still searching for 1 missing person.
‘Talim’ brought strong winds and surged high waves. The Vietnamese authorities have ordered boats to dock and required dozens of flights to be rerouted.
Vietnam's meteorological bureau stated that ‘Talim’ is moving slowly, and is expected to further weaken before making landfall next week.
The meteorological bureau forecasts that on December 2nd and 3rd, rainfall from Thua Thien Hue to Khanh Hoa Province could reach up to 150 millimeters, as those areas are only just recovering from historic floods.
