(Jakarta, 7th) Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday morning received Microsoft co-founder, renowned philanthropist Bill Gates at Jakarta's Independence Palace to discuss topics such as global health and technological development.

Prabowo welcomed Gates in the palace courtyard, shook hands with him, and then proceeded to the reception hall for discussions and a photo opportunity. Following that, the president invited Gates into the office to continue the meeting. Several Indonesian cabinet ministers also attended the meeting.

The Deputy Head of Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Palace, Yusuf Perwama, stated earlier that Prabowo and Gates would engage in an in-depth exchange on sustainable development topics.

“They will specifically exchange views on global health, nutrition, financial inclusivity, and public digital infrastructure.”

This month, Gates was ranked 13th on the Forbes Global Billionaires List. He arrived in Jakarta after visiting Singapore to learn about several sustainable development projects.

Prabowo had already revealed Gates's visit to Indonesia during a cabinet meeting on May 5.

He said, “Gates will visit Indonesia on May 7. He sent me a letter last November expressing his wish to meet me and his willingness to support the 'free nutritious meal' (MBG) program we are implementing. He also hopes to award this project.”

While welcoming the attention from Gates, Prabowo emphasized that this program will be steadfastly pursued regardless of external aid.

“He said he would be willing to provide assistance, although I am not sure in what form,” he said, “In any case, we will continue to advance this program because it is an investment in the next generation of the country, not relying on external assistance or awards.”
