(Bandar Seri Begawan, 26th) The Marine Police Unit under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) thwarted an attempt to smuggle contraband goods via waterways.

According to the RBPF, the marine police discovered a suspicious boat with two people on board speeding along the Sungai Puda River during patrol. The marine police attempted to intercept the boat for inspection, but the boat fled, prompting a chase by the marine police boat.

The chase continued until the boat entered the shallow waters behind the Kampong Bolkiah residential area, where the two suspects fled on foot into the village. With the assistance of a Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) vessel, the boat was towed away from the shallow waters.

Initial inspection revealed several boxes suspected of containing fresh food imported from a neighboring country.

Upon further inspection at the marine police headquarters, 30 kilograms of chicken wings and 15 packs of chicken pieces were found on the boat.

The seized items, along with the boat, have been handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further investigation.

The Royal Brunei Police Force reiterated its commitment to strengthen patrol efforts, especially in border areas, to maintain national security, and urged the public not to engage in illegal activities that violate national laws.
