(Matou, 21st) — A man who entered the forest near Kampung Bawang yesterday to collect honey went missing but was eventually found safe.
The missing person, 44-year-old Faizal Isyam Suhaimi, was found by villagers who participated in the search and rescue operation after being missing for several hours.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operation Center (PGOB) stated that the man is believed to have entered the forest at around 9 a.m. to collect forest products.
"However, at around 3 p.m., he called a friend to inform that he was lost and unable to find the way out. Before the rescue team arrived, villagers had already entered the forest to search for him," the authorities said in a statement.
After several hours of searching, the Fire and Rescue Department received notice that the missing person was found about 150 meters from the search area, and about 84 meters from the path where he originally entered the forest.
Subsequently, the incident commander and team members rushed to the scene and safely escorted the man out of the forest.
"The injured person received initial treatment at the scene, was then handed over to the police, and sent to Dalat Hospital for further examination," the statement added.
