Fei Yu-ching 'Car Accident Rescue' Turns Out to Be a Scam: Woman Loses a Million Believing AI Video

Fei Yu-ching (Xiao Ge) has been retired from the music industry for more than five years, but recently it was reported that a woman in her 70s was scammed after believing a fraud group who claimed Fei Yu-ching was injured, asking her to send money for help. Over the course of eight months, she was cheated out of more than 10 million NTD (about 1.38 million MYR).

According to ETtoday News, a woman in her 70s in Taipei joined a Fei Yu-ching fan club set up by fans. Because she frequently liked posts and became a loyal fan, she was targeted by scammers. Impersonating Fei Yu-ching, they privately messaged the woman, claiming he had been in a car accident in Japan and fractured his leg, needing her to provide 10 million NTD to save him. They even used AI to create fake videos, making the woman truly believe it was real. The scammed woman revealed that the imposter claimed the hospital surgery would cost 3.5 million NTD (about 480,000 MYR), then said a second operation would require 6.5 million NTD (about 900,000 MYR), and later said he was opening an orphanage in Hong Kong and needed sponsorship, so she gave another 1 million NTD (about 130,000 MYR).

This woman was scammed out of 10 million NTD within eight months from February this year. She even sent the fake Fei Yu-ching video to friends, hoping others could help, and borrowed 1.75 million NTD (about 240,000 MYR) to save him. Now that the truth is out—that it was all a scam—the woman is finding it hard to accept. Fei Yu-ching's agent responded that Xiao Ge has never set up any social media accounts since his debut, so those online accounts are all fake, and reminded everyone to beware of being scammed.
