Law Kiu Kwong Emphasizes the Importance of Education, Urges Full Utilization of Free Higher Education Scheme

(Kuching, 30th) Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Law Kiu Kwong has called on Sarawakians to fully utilize the state government's free higher education scheme.

He emphasized the importance of receiving an education, pointing out that education is critical to nation-building and Sarawak's development, and cited Singapore as an example.

“Singapore’s prosperity and development is a case in point—they have no oil, no timber, and little to sell. But through education, they have cultivated a strong human resource. Their strength lies in the knowledge they possess.”

Law expressed these sentiments in his speech last night at the Peace Carol Concert held in the multi-purpose hall of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).

Law added that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari has constantly reminded parents and elders to encourage their children to take their studies seriously, to gain knowledge, and to study hard.

Reflecting on his own experience, Law shared that, in an era when universities in Malaysia were few and far between, his father went to great lengths to support him studying abroad.

“I was able to receive a university education solely thanks to my father's dedication and love.”

It is reported that the “Peace Carol” is an annual Christmas charity concert jointly organized by the Kuching Choir, the Kuching Concert & Marching Band Association.

This event aims to raise funds to support the operations and development of the ‘House of Peace’ (HOP), located at Lot 183, Jalan Land, Kota Padawan.

The ‘House of Peace’ provides care for destitute or homeless senior citizens regardless of race or religion, and is wholly owned and managed by the Sarawak Catholic Welfare Services Council.

Guest performers that evening included the KCS Choir, KCMBA, Kuching Wind Symphony Orchestra (KWS), D’Quaver String Quartet, soloist Loey Lê Phương Ly, St. Joseph’s Private School Concert Band and Chamber Choir, as well as Indonesia’s Vocasan Choir.
