K-pop queen BoA announced on the 12th that her contract had expired and she would not be renewing with her long-time agency, SM Entertainment, officially ending their 25-year collaboration. Both parties issued statement articles, and SM prepared a commemorative video for BoA titled “You still our No.1 BoA,” though the news has still dealt a considerable shock to fans.
SM stated that after lengthy and in-depth discussions, both sides mutually agreed to end their 25-year partnership as of December 31, 2025. “Since debuting in 2000 at just 13 years old, BoA, now marking her 25th anniversary since debut, has been widely loved by global music fans as the symbol of venturing overseas to pioneer the Asian Korean Wave, and as the 'Star of Asia,' serving as a role model for countless juniors leading the K-pop craze.”
BoA wrote on IG, mentioning that both she and the company gave their all over the years and reaped corresponding rewards. “So I can leave without any regrets. I'm so grateful to have spent this time together with everyone. I will continue to support the shining 'SM Entertainment' in the days to come. Thank you.”
