(Miri, 28th) The Miri Hakka Association held an award ceremony yesterday afternoon at its premises to present scholarships for academic excellence to the children of its members. President Dato' Seri Lee Kim Shin stated during the ceremony that the association has always placed great importance on the education of its members' children, encouraging the younger generation to strive for academic excellence as it is a significant investment in their future development.

Lee Kim Shin emphasized that education is one of the core traditional values of Chinese and Hakka people. Education is not only the key to success but also an essential path for cultivating future professionals, experts, and pillars of society. He mentioned that through these scholarships, the association hopes to nurture more outstanding next generations who can contribute to society, Sarawak, and the nation.

He also pointed out that the Sarawak government is actively promoting the digital economy and green economy to achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goals, stating that Sarawak can learn from Singapore's success. Although Singapore lacks natural resources, it has still achieved economic development and national strength by attracting talent. Therefore, Sarawak should also focus on cultivating talents and developing education to enhance overall competitiveness.

Lee Kim Shin disclosed that the Sarawak government will offer more opportunities to the younger generation in Sarawak next year, including free tuition opportunities for eligible students, and independent school students are welcome to apply to enter the four universities in Sarawak. As long as they are Sarawak residents, regardless of race, those with an identity card number starting with "K" can enjoy the corresponding benefits.

As Sarawak's Transport Minister and State Assemblyman for Senadin,  Lee Kim Shin also stated that, in addition to free tuition, children from other regions and low-income families can apply for living allowances, including meal and accommodation expenses, to further encourage the younger generation to value education and enhance Sarawak's overall talent quality.

He concluded by mentioning that as the number of recipients of the association's scholarships increases every year, although the board of directors needs to bear more financial input, this initiative is worthwhile as it concerns the future of the next generation and paves the way for the future of Sarawak.
