Veteran Singaporean artist Liu Qianyi, who will be turning 74 next month, uploaded a video of about one and a half minutes on social media on May 27, revealing that he had just been discharged from the hospital.
He wrote: "From May 21 to 26, I was unable to take care of myself in terms of urinating and defecating, and stayed in the hospital for six days. Today, upon discharge, I want to especially thank the nurses, catering staff, and doctors at NUH (National University Hospital) for their attentive care."
Though he was slightly out of breath while speaking, he looked healthy. Speaking to the camera, he said: "I wanted to come out and soak up the sun, and walk around a bit, since I hadn’t moved at all after lying in bed for six days. I chose to walk on the grass in case I get dizzy and fall again. I want to train my willpower. Originally my wife could have accompanied me, but I didn’t let her know and came out by myself."
Liu Qianyi did not disclose the reason for his hospitalization. At the end of the video, he said optimistically: "I have a long life—I'll be fine! Lin bei (I myself) am tiangong zai (a lucky person)!"
A reporter from Lianhe Zaobao contacted Liu Qianyi to inquire about his condition. He replied: "I've recovered. Thank you for your concern. I just wanted to sincerely thank NUH, and I'm not planning to discuss anything else. Sorry."
