KUCHING, June 23: Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, the wife of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, passed away in the early hours of this morning at Normah Medical Specialist Centre here.
She breathed her last at 3.34am today, corresponding to 26 Zulhijjah 1446H. She was 76.
According to a reliable notice shared to the press, a final tribute ceremony will be held at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya from 10am to 12 noon today.
The burial will take place at the Islamic Cemetery in Semariang, Petra Jaya.
Just last night (June 22), during the Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak Celebration 2025 gala dinner, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that Abang Johari had to leave the event to be with his wife, who was receiving treatment at the hospital.
“Let us pray for the wellbeing of the Premier’s wife who is in the hospital.
“He (Abang Johari) had to leave the ceremony to be with her,” Anwar said.
According to reliable sources, Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi also visited the couple at the hospital that same night.
Juma’ani was the president of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI).
She was the daughter of the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang Tuanku Othman, the second Sarawak Governor.
Juma’ani and Abang Johari were married on Feb 26, 1977, and are blessed with two children, Abang Abdillah Izzarim and Dayang Norjihan.
