Entertainer Wu Peici gave birth to four children for her Hong Kong tycoon boyfriend Ji Xiaobo. Although the two have not married, they are as close as husband and wife. Recently, her extremely wealthy “mother-in-law” Cui Lijie was reportedly arrested.
According to reports by American media, amidst a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), 68-year-old Chinese national with Hong Kong residency, Cui Lijie, was arrested on June 13 in the US territory of Saipan in the Western Pacific for violating immigration laws. She is currently being held in a local jail.
The report mentions that Cui Lijie and her son Ji Xiaobo built their fortune through Macau casinos, reportedly amassing $1.1 billion (about RM4.456 billion) in wealth. They also participated in developing the ‘Imperial Pacific Palace’ casino and a luxury beachfront hotel in Saipan. However, the casino is suspected of illegally employing Chinese nationals with only tourist visas, as well as multiple safety violations and even bribing officials. According to the report, after running the casino for four years, operations ceased in March 2020 due to the pandemic. Cui Lijie, as company chairman, along with three senior contractors, faced accusations of illegal conduct, leading them to file for bankruptcy in April 2024.
It remains unclear whether Cui Lijie’s arrest is related to this case. ICE has not disclosed the reason or details, only releasing a mugshot of Cui Lijie at the time of her arrest. Her exhausted and disheveled appearance offers a stark contrast to her former glamorous image, and these fallen-from-grace photos have gone viral online, sparking heated discussion.
