(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) Recently, the "Primary School Group Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition" of Brunei Chung Hwa Middle School concluded successfully. The results of each group were announced, and the fresh award list was released.
This competition was organized by the school’s Chinese department and was held on the morning of April 11th at the Wang Changhe Lecture Hall. The competition was divided into the Primary Chinese Group (Grades 1-6) and the Non-Chinese Group (Upper and Lower Grades), with eight categories in total, and attracted 64 enthusiastic primary school students to register and participate.
The purpose of this competition is to stimulate students' love for Chinese poetry, improve their poetry recitation skills and language expression ability; enrich campus cultural life, create a rich scholarly atmosphere, inherit and promote Chinese culture, and provide a platform for primary students to showcase themselves, enhancing their confidence and performance abilities.
The selection materials of the contestants were characterized by diversity, with poetry recitation (ancient poetry, new poetry, and children's poetry) as the main focus, featuring varied forms and rich content. To fully convey the content of the poems, students had to first deeply understand the content of the works and then use rich emotions and body language to assist in presenting the beauty of the poetry, thereby resonating with the audience. Contestants had varied styles; some were lively, fully displaying childlike fun, while others were humorous and amusing, receiving rounds of applause and laughter from the audience.
After intense and fierce competition, each participant showcased their talents. The judges ultimately selected students Hong Xinyu from Grade 1, Li Ziqing from Grade 2, Qiu Zichen from Grade 3, Liang Xinwen from Grade 4, Wang Chenxu from Grade 5, and Chen Yanzhen from Grade 6 as champions of the Chinese Group.
It is worth mentioning that learning Chinese is no longer just a goal for Chinese students. This time, a total of 11 non-Chinese students also participated in the Non-Chinese Group competition, with student Tai Wenan winning the Lower Non-Chinese Group championship and student Liao Fangyi winning the Upper Non-Chinese Group championship. Their active learning of Chinese and efforts to speak Chinese well are commendable.
Chung Hwa Middle School Principal Xu Yuelan stated that the "Primary School Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition" organized by the school's Chinese department allows primary students to appreciate the rhythmic beauty of poetry in recitation, deepen their understanding and love for traditional culture, promote cultural inheritance, and spark their interest in learning Chinese culture. She hopes that all students can gain valuable experience from the event and continue to work hard in their studies.
