Cosmetics Containing Mercury Banned from Sale: Ministry of Health Reminds Public Not to Use

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 29th) The Ministry of Health reminds the public to pay attention to a cosmetic product that, after testing by the Pharmaceutical Laboratory of the Scientific Services Bureau of the Ministry, was found to be adulterated with undeclared controlled poisons listed under the Poison Act.
The affected cosmetic is 'Rose White & Natural Cream Moisturizer', which did not indicate the presence of mercury.
The adulterant found in this product may pose potential harm to users.
Mercury is a potent ingredient and is prohibited for use in cosmetics under the Medicines (Cosmetic Products) Regulations, 2007.

Mercury is banned from use in cosmetics due to its harmful effects on human health. It is easily absorbed through the skin and accumulates in the body.
Exposure to mercury may cause rashes, memory loss, and muscle weakness. High levels of exposure may damage the brain and kidneys. Mercury is also highly toxic to unborn fetuses.
The Ministry of Health has not approved the import or sale of this product, nor has it issued any confirmation letter for the sale of the cosmetic. Therefore, the import and sale of this product in Brunei is prohibited.
Members of the public who have purchased or used this product should immediately cease use. If you feel unwell or experience any adverse reactions due to the use of this product, please consult a doctor.
According to the Medicines (Cosmetic Products) Regulations, 2007, selling this product (including online retailing via platforms such as Facebook) constitutes an offence.

Anyone found in violation of these regulations, upon conviction, will be subject to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both.
The Ministry of Health calls on the public to cooperate; if you find this product still being sold in the country, please report it to the Compliance and Licensing Section.
