Brazilian President Lula on the 7th responded to U.S. President Trump's tariff threat against BRICS countries, saying this move was "wrong and irresponsible."

On the 6th, Trump claimed on the social media platform Truth Social that BRICS countries are implementing "anti-American policies," and threatened to impose an additional 10% tariff on all countries aligning with the BRICS "anti-American policies."

At a press conference after the BRICS leaders’ summit on the 7th, Lula said: “It is very wrong and very irresponsible for the president of one country to threaten other countries on social media.”

Lula stated that the world today is different from the past, “We don’t need an emperor,” and that every country “is the master of its own destiny.” The U.S. has no right to interfere with the independent choices of other countries.

Lula said: “If the U.S. imposes tariffs on other countries, then other countries can impose reciprocal tariffs on the U.S.”
