The shadow of the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire, which resulted in 159 deaths, still lingers. In Tsuen Wan District of New Territories, the Beijing Building of Tsuen Wan Centre at Tsuen King Circuit reported a fire at 3:12am local time on December 6, prompting an emergency evacuation of over a hundred residents.
Preliminary police investigation indicates that the fire is not considered suspicious.
According to the Sing Tao Daily, after receiving the report, fire units extinguished the flames at around 3:36am. The preliminary investigation revealed that the fire originated from debris outside a 7th-floor window, with some flames spreading to the air-conditioner on the 6th floor, and thick smoke blackening the exterior wall between the 7th and 8th floors.
It is understood that the owner of the unit where the fire started felt unwell after inhaling smoke, but remained conscious and did not require hospitalization. Many residents were awakened from their sleep by the blaze, with about 100 people evacuating immediately—many still in their pajamas and slippers, showing how hurriedly they had to leave.
