Iran Willing to Continue Negotiations Within the Framework of International Law

The Iranian presidential office released a statement on the 13th, noting that President Pezeshkian, during a phone call with French President Macron that day, said Iran is willing to continue negotiations with the US within the framework of international law and will abide by ceasefire terms. He noted that the excessive ambition of the US side had previously hindered the reaching of an agreement.

During the call, Pezeshkian said that in Iran’s view, diplomacy is the preferred way to resolve disputes. "Means based on threats, pressure, and military action not only fail to solve problems, but actually make them more complicated and exacerbate issues caused by the US itself."

Speaking on the recent Iran-US talks held in Pakistan, Pezeshkian stated that the Iranian delegation had demonstrated seriousness and sincerity in seeking a lasting agreement. Despite some expert-level technical consensus, the excessive ambition of senior US officials and the lack of political will prevented a final agreement from being reached.

Regarding US threats to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian said any threat to the security of this strategic passage would have a broad impact on global trade, and that Iran, in order to safeguard its national interests, is fully prepared to respond to any adverse situation.

US President Trump confirmed on the 13th that, as of 10 a.m. Eastern US time on the 13th, the United States has imposed a blockade on all ships entering and leaving Iranian ports.
