(Kuching, 13th) Sarawak Cultural Village has confirmed that a fire broke out at the village's Bidayuh longhouse at around 7:30 pm last night, with parts of the building affected.
The Cultural Village issued a statement last night noting that teams from Petra Jaya, Tabuan Jaya, and Pulau Ann Fire Stations quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control in time.
The statement read: “Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties.”
The Sarawak Cultural Village clarified that the fire only affected the Bidayuh Longhouse, and that all other ethnic longhouses and facilities in the park were safe and unaffected.
Authorities have launched an immediate investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
The statement said: “The protection and preservation of Sarawak’s cultural heritage is always our top priority. We will take the necessary steps to assess the damage and plan restoration work.”
The Sarawak Cultural Village also stated that the park will remain open to the public, but the affected area will remain temporarily closed to ensure safety and to facilitate investigation and restoration efforts.
The statement read: “We sincerely thank the fire and rescue teams for their swift actions and professionalism.”
