Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the opening ceremony of the "Global Women's Summit" in Beijing on the 13th that over the next five years, China will provide $110 million (465 million ringgit) to "support the development of global women's causes" and will invite 50,000 women from around the world to China for exchanges and training.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the "Global Women's Summit" is being held in Beijing from the 13th to 14th. Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan both attended the opening ceremony on the 13th. He made the above remarks in his speech at the opening ceremony.
According to the report, Xi Jinping announced that to further "support the development of global women's causes," China will donate another $10 million (42.26 million ringgit) to UN Women over the next five years, and provide $100 million (422 million ringgit) as a quota for the "Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund," cooperating with international organizations to implement projects promoting the development of women and girls.
Xi Jinping also stated that over the next five years, China will support 1,000 "small but beautiful" projects in the field of livelihood development, prioritizing women and girls as beneficiaries; at the same time, 50,000 women will be invited to China for exchange and training; and a "Global Women's Capacity Building Center" will be established to carry out capacity building and development cooperation in the field of women with relevant countries and international organizations, cultivating more outstanding female talents.
He also said that China is actively leveraging its "own development" to create opportunities and safeguards for women's causes globally. China has initiated the establishment of the "International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations," cooperated with UNESCO to set up the Prize for Girls' and Women's Education, implemented "Maternal and Child Health Projects," "Happy Campus Projects," and a series of "small but beautiful" public welfare programs; and has actively promoted international women's exchanges and cooperation within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Xi Jinping also put forward four suggestions for global women's causes: First, jointly foster a favorable environment for women's growth and development; second, jointly develop strong momentum for driving high-quality development of women's causes; third, jointly build governance structures safeguarding women's rights and interests; and fourth, jointly write a new chapter in promoting global women's cooperation.
