(North Korea, 7th) North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has called for the capacity of North Korea's military industry to be increased annually by 2.5 times over the course of its five-year plan.
North Korean state media KCNA reported that on Saturday (June 6), Kim Jong-un inspected an important military enterprise, reviewed the production status of major weapons for the first half of the year, and listened to a report from North Korea's Missile General Bureau regarding capacity expansion plans for various ballistic and cruise missiles.
The report stated that the enterprise had already completed its major weapons production plan for the first half of the year ahead of schedule and is accelerating preparations for production in the second half. Kim Jong-un gave high praise for these achievements.
During his inspection, he emphasized that during the five-year plan period, current production capacity must be steadily raised to 2.5 times its present level, in order to sufficiently meet the sharply increasing demand for missiles. “This is a profoundly significant core task.”
Sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council prohibit North Korea from developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, but Pyongyang has long maintained that it has the right to possess nuclear weapons and develop ballistic missile programs. In 2023, North Korea even enshrined its nuclear status into its constitution.
Kim Yo-jong, Minister of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee and Kim Jong-un’s younger sister, issued a statement through KCNA on Saturday emphasizing that North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is “absolutely non-negotiable.”
She declared that nuclear force is stipulated by North Korea’s supreme law, the constitution, and is the core power of state sovereignty and national defense: “This ensures that our nation’s core interests are protected from any external influence.”
“Nuclear arms are the most powerful logic in debates with those who worship strength. We will never allow any threat to or compromise on our sovereignty and security.”
