The latest poll released by Taiwan's pro-green media, 'Mirror News,' shows that President Lai Ching-te's approval rating has fallen to a new low one year after taking office, while his disapproval rating has hit a new high.
According to the political and economic poll published by 'Mirror News' on the 21st of May, Lai Ching-te's governance satisfaction rate stands at 44.7%, with the dissatisfaction rate reaching 42.2%, marking the lowest satisfaction and highest dissatisfaction rates since he took office.
In the survey on the performance of Lai's government in various policies, 15.4% of respondents were most satisfied with the national defense and foreign affairs performance, followed by healthcare (11.3%), labor protection (7.4%), judicial justice (5.7%), transportation infrastructure (5.2%), housing policy (4.7%), education and culture (4.6%), and economic development (4.1%). Meanwhile, 19.3% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with all policies, with another 16.9% not expressing an opinion.
Regarding dissatisfaction across various policy areas, the highest was judicial justice (20.0%), followed by economic development (13.3%), national defense and foreign affairs (11.5%), housing policy (9.1%), transportation infrastructure (6.9%), education and culture (3.9%), healthcare (3.5%), and labor protection (3.4%), with another 11.5% not clearly expressing an opinion.
In terms of the overall performance of legislative members, the satisfaction rate for DPP legislators is 41.6%, with a dissatisfaction rate of 47.5%; the satisfaction rate for People's Party legislators is 29.7%, with a dissatisfaction rate of 54.6%; and for KMT legislators, the satisfaction rate is 27.4%, with dissatisfaction reaching 59.8%. KMT legislators' satisfaction rate has been the lowest among the three parties for two consecutive months.
This survey was planned by 'Mirror News' and commissioned Da Di Public Opinion Research Company to design the questionnaire and execute it. The survey took place between May 18-19, targeting citizens aged 20 and above with household registration in the Taiwan-Matsu region, completing a total of 1077 valid samples. The sampling error is plus or minus 2.99% with a confidence level of 95%.
