(Hanoi/Vientiane, 30th, Comprehensive Report) According to the Vientiane Times, as cited by the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Vientiane, Laos and Thailand jointly held the 13th meeting of border coordination units (Vientiane Capital - Nong Khai Province) on January 28 at the Laos-Thailand First Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai Province, Thailand.
During the meeting, both sides respectively reported on their border law enforcement and management operations, and held in-depth exchanges of views on several important topics, including strict adherence to the laws of both countries during checks against illegal entry and exit, intercepting illicit drug transport, and enhancing coordination and cooperation among law enforcement units at all levels in border checks and patrols to jointly maintain security and order in the border area.
Both sides unanimously agreed to continue summarizing experiences and deepening cooperation during their turn hosting joint patrols to further consolidate good cooperative relations; meanwhile, they will keep promoting mutual visits and exchanges between the two countries’ military forces, and develop more substantive cooperation to properly address potential issues.
The meeting also emphasized prioritizing the prevention and containment of illegal labor export, human trafficking, drug-related issues, smuggling activities, high-tech crimes, and other illegal acts, ensuring long-term stability in the border region.
It was reported that, in order to safeguard security and order in the border area, Laos and Thailand usually take turns holding border coordination meetings before each round of joint patrols to ensure the smooth and safe implementation of joint patrol operations, fully demonstrating the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two sides and working together to build a peaceful, friendly and developed border area.
