Repeatedly Stealing Vehicles and Batteries, Man Sentenced to 20 Months in Prison

(Brunei, 5th) A local man who committed a series of crimes involving the theft of motorcycles and car batteries last year has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.
The defendant, Aji Zhan (34), previously admitted to three theft charges and one attempted theft charge.
The Deputy Prosecutor revealed that the defendant's criminal activities began on the morning of October 9, 2023, when he stole a Yamaha motorcycle parked outside a house in Kampong Setia A, the owner had not locked the bike at the time.
That evening, the defendant stole another unlocked Honda motorcycle parked in Kampong Sumbiling.
The next morning, the defendant attempted to steal a third motorcycle outside a house in Kampong Sungai Akar but fled when discovered.
Two days later, on October 12, the defendant broke into a car parked in the Kampong Delima Satu commercial area and stole its battery. On October 14, he committed another theft in the same area, stealing two more batteries from another car.
The defendant admitted to selling the stolen goods to a scrap metal store.
Police investigations recovered some of the stolen goods and eventually arrested the defendant.
During sentencing, the court considered the defendant's plea and the recovery of some stolen goods, but also noted the severity and repetitiveness of the crimes.
